Job Purpose

The Bookkeeper is the key financial manager of the church’s day-to-day operations, performing a wide range of transactional, tracking and management functions, and has interactions with a broad group of church members.  Schedule is 24 hours per week, 12 hours/week in summer. Job Duties / Responsibilities


  • Responsible for counting of the Offering, posting donations through PowerChurch, manage e-transfers, bank deposits, enter and pay invoices, track income, expenses and cash flow


  • Produce financial reports for Church Council and Finance Committee
  • Reconcile all bank accounts
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Finance Committee (September to June)
  • Manage Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) changes
  • Interaction and information management with external accountant


  • HST submission (twice annually)
  • Play key role in annual budgeting process and interim forecasts with the Finance Committee
  • Manage payroll and benefits for staff as directed by the Ministry & Personnel Committee (M&P)
  • Responsible for tax receipts for congregation (using PowerChurch) and issuing T4’s and T4A’s internally
  • Ordering Offering envelopes
  • Write Annual Report submission, and maintain Bookkeepers Manual
  • Manage requests from Ministerial team, Finance Chair and others as needed
  • Other tasks as needed


  • College diploma/certificate in accounting or finance as a minimum
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience, ideally in a church office
  • Experience writing financial reports and presenting them to small groups
  • Strong QuickBooks skills mandatory
  • Good Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Highly effective oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize
